What is Data
Data is information in raw or unorganized form (such as alphabets, numbers, or symbols). It refers to, or represents, conditions, ideas, or objects. Data is limitless and present everywhere in the universe
An Example:
In the office we took a pizza lovers survey.
We learned that ten people liked pepperoni pizza best.
Nine liked sausage pizza best.
Seven liked cheese pizza best.
This information is called DATA
If you plan to give a pizza party for your team in the office then you would need the pizza lover's survey data.
Data is Everywhere

Lots of Data
- 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated every day! -A quintillion is 1018
- Google processes 20 PB a day (2008)
- Wayback Machine has 3 PB + 100 TB/month (3/2009)
- Facebook has 2.5 PB of user data + 15 TB/day (4/2009)
- eBay has 6.5 PB of user data + 50 TB/day (5/2009)
- CERN's Large Hydron Collider (LHC) generates 15 PB a year
- Your name, rating, website address, town, country, state and comment will be publicly displayed if entered.
- Aside from the data entered into these form fields, other stored data about your comment will include:
- Your IP address (not displayed)
- The time/date of your submission (displayed)
- Your email address will not be shared. It is collected for only two reasons:
- Administrative purposes, should a need to contact you arise.
- To inform you of new comments, should you subscribe to receive notifications.
- A cookie may be set on your computer. This is used to remember your inputs. It will expire by itself.
- Although the administrator will attempt to moderate comments, it is impossible for every comment to have been moderated at any given time.
- You acknowledge that all comments express the views and opinions of the original author and not those of the administrator.
- You agree not to post any material which is knowingly false, obscene, hateful, threatening, harassing or invasive of a person's privacy.
- The administrator has the right to edit, move or remove any comment for any reason and without notice.
